A new way of looking at our eyes. 👁️
For this tote, we explored the Japanese technique of shibori, replacing the objects traditionally used to create resist patterns in the fabric with something of our own: our handmade ceramic buttons.
We brought back some of the little ceramic eyes that, for one reason or another, didn’t meet our standards to become buttons, and found a new place for them within the process. Tied one by one into the fabric, they create areas of resistance during the dyeing process, giving way to unexpected volumes, shapes, and one-of-a-kind traces.
No longer as buttons, but as tools.
No longer on the piece, but leaving their imprint behind.
A different way of working with what already exists—reinterpreting it and discovering everything it can still become. <3
